Major improvement works in St Asaph completed

A major £1.5million environmental improvement project on the Bro Havard Estate in St Asaph has been completed by Denbighshire Housing and has significantly enhanced the area.

Denbighshire Housing along with the contractor, Dawnus Construction, undertook the works for the benefit of council tenants and the wider community and they included highway reconstruction, a new road on Stanley Park, additional parking facilities, improved pedestrian links, additional traffic calming measures and soft landscaping.

The landscaping consisted of native species tree planting, shrubs and wild flower areas which will provide year round colour and interest for the residents as well as enhancing the biodiversity on the estate.

The concept, design work and construction supervision was carried out by a team from the Council’s Housing and Highways departments with construction work starting in September 2017 and ending in November this year.

Cllr Tony Thomas, the Council’s lead member for Housing, Regulation and the Environment, said: “The project forms part of our commitment to invest in our communities and support a positive place to live while improving neighbourhoods, infrastructure and the wider community, which are priorities under our Corporate Plan.

“Residents have been telling us how happy they are with the improvements, especially those living at Heol Afon flats and Stanley Park, who have benefitted from the provision of new parking bays and off road parking as well as vast improvements to the greenspace.”
Investment in the project came from Denbighshire Housing and with support from the County Council and from Welsh Government as part of the annual Major Repairs Allowance.

Work was carried out after Denbighshire Housing’s Survey of Tenants and Residents (STAR) which identified parking as an issue.
Cllr Tony Thomas added: “Our tenants’ views are important to us and shape what we deliver within our service, we will continue to speak with our tenants on what matters most to them to make sure we continue to provide the best possible service.”
